January 25, 2012
Green Island High has been
designated by the Ministry of Education as the focus school for Jamaica Day
Celebrations in the Western Region. Jamaica Day will be staged on Friday, February 17, 2012 under the
theme: “Celebrating Jamaica: Goals for
Gold”, and will have the added significance of being celebrated in the year
of Jamaica’s 50th Independence.
Jamaica Day is one of the
flagship projects of the Culture In Education
Programme in the Education Ministry. It is a day for schools to mount
celebrations around a specific theme geared towards fostering a greater spirit
of patriotism and responsible citizenship. It also aims to help inspire
excellence; encourage personal responsibility; foster national pride; and to
enhance the relationships that the schools have with the communities in which
they are located.
To this end, we at Green
Island High have put together a programme that will highlight excellence in
several aspects of Jamaican life. We will be inviting schools, community
cultural groups, public sector agencies and members of the commercial sector to
participate in, what we are determined to make, the
best Jamaica Day celebration island-wide. The day’s events will include a float
parade; a civic ceremony; awards to persons who have demonstrated active and significant service towards the
development of schools in the Western Region; and a cultural concert.
We would be most
appreciative if a representative from GIHANA could share in this historic
event.
We also solicit your
generous contribution in helping us to stage this event.
Thank for your continued
support of Green Island High as we continue to promote the motto –
“Excellence”.
Yours sincerely
