School Lunch Program
The GIHANA Board voted to assist the school with their current lunch program by sending US$500.00. This, they hope will be the start of what can be an ongoing sponsorship. We are relying on the alumni to support this program.

Essay Competition
The idea of sponsoring an essay competition was given to the board, and this idea has materialized into near reality so much so, that the Board allotted $100.00 for the prize. The logistic is still to be worked out.

Fundraising
The association is planning for a big raffle. The prize is a 4-day stay at a beautiful Sandals Resort in Jamaica, including airfare. That is wonderful! The plans are in its final stages. Stay tuned for this event.

Projects
The association has brainstormed on a few projects that they would like to do for the school in the first Quarter of 2008:
1) To assist with equipping the science lab with equipments. This is proposed to start in February 2008 since the school is currently constructing the room.
2) Install three (3) drinking water fountains (with cool water). This is on hold until we get further clarification from the school
3) Thrift shop at the school where alumni would donate and stock the shop. The proceeds from the sale of goods would go to needy students.
We are in dialog with Mr. Wollery at the school on these proposals, and the hope is that we can make these dreams become a reality for the students.

Financial Report
Financial Report as of August 31, 2007

The Income and Expenditure report for the GIHANA as of August 31, 2007 shows total income of $10,799.56 and an expense of $11,035.67 which is a result of the recent Fundraising Ball in Pembroke Pines, Florida in August 25th and 26th of 2007. The net loss from the fundraising event total $-236.11

The Checking account balance is $6,342.23 with a pending outstanding amount of $79.95 for renewal of web page. The Petty cash balance is $199.89. The total dues collected since the last report is $180.00. We received cash donations at the park on 8/26/07 totaling $438.00.

There were no operating expenditure this period, however, the Board voted to apply for tax exemption status - 501(c)3 which cost approximately $520.00, and $30.00 for a Post Office box rental fee. The association list an air marked project as pending of $1,788.00 to assist with the Green Island High science lab.

The following asset was left over since the picnic on 8/26/07: nine T-Shirts valued at $180.00.

Voting - Bylaws
The association's bylaws has a few amendments that the registered members will be voting on in the month of December. The vote will be by proxy. If you are a registered member (i.e. you have paid your $20 dues), we will mail the form and ballot to your address. Keep an eye out for this important document.

Membership Drive
The Hospitality committee has launched a membership drive. They are asking alumni to register for only $20.00 for one year. Members get updates and are eligible to vote, or become members of the Board, as well as assist with making decision for the association.

Website Admin Needed!!
The Information Technology department is looking for someone to assist with maintaining the GIHANA's web pages. He/She will be trained. It is exciting and can add value to your career or resume. Please send an email to gihana@greenislandalumni.com
